In a somewhat surprising development, Disney Pixar’s Brave has walked away with the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, pipping the excellent ParaNorman (my personal favourite), Disney’s excellent Wreck-It-Ralph and Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie in the process.

Pixar’s latest addition didn’t quite unite critics in their appreciation, though it was universally acknowledged as a significant step up in class from Cars 2, and the animation house who seem to be able to do no wrong have picked up another Oscar for their work.

This year saw arguably the strongest Animated Features field for some time, and Pixar’s victory is all the more impressive given the commercial success of Wreck-It-Ralph, and how well received ParaNorman and Frankenweenie both were in a busy market.

Disney were also doubly celebrating as the exceptional and beautifully executed Paperman picked up the Oscar for Best Animated short, after its recent release attached to Animated Feature nominee, and favourite, Wreck-It-Ralph.

Do you think Brave deserved its win? Did you love Paperman? Share your thoughts below.
