Paul Giamatti To Play Rhino In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Black Cat Also Cast?

giamatti rhino It looks like Peter Parker won't just have Jamie Foxx's Electro to deal with as a villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The Hollywood Reporter revealed this evening that Paul Giamatti is in talks to play Rhino in the May 2nd, 2014 released sequel. With an Oscar nominated actor on board, best known for playing intellectual/wise-assed creeps, can we expect a more cerebral Rhino on our screens than we are used to from the comics and animated adaptations? We'll see, but he certainly wouldn't have been the first name to come to WhatCulture's lips for casting! First introduced in 1966's The Amazing Spider-Man #41, Rhino was the alter-ego of Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich, a former low-level criminal who experimented with an almost indestructible Rhino polymer to his skin, making him an unstoppable force. Giamatti's portrayal would be the first time the character has been seen on the big screen. jones Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter has also revealed Felicity Jones is in talks for an undisclosed role in the movie. With Shailene Woodley already confirmed as Mary Jane Watson in the sequel, we can be pretty safe in assuming she'll portray Felicity Hardy (aka Black Cat). Introduced for the first time in The Amazing Spider-Man #194... Black Cat, should Jones' character be her, is Spider-Man's version of Catwoman... the sometimes good/sometimes bad love interest/cat burglar to our friendly neighbourhood Spider (rather than Peter Parker) who brings bad luck to most she is in contact with. She is the daughter of a master criminal who trained in college to follow in her father's footsteps for a life on the wrong side of the law. This too would be her first appearance on the big screen, though in Sam Raimi's ultimately unrealised Spider-Man 4, Anne Hathaway was in talks to play a version of her (she would be the daughter of The Vulture)... this some months before Chris Nolan would offer her the role of Catwoman. Returning for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are Andrew Garfield (as Peter Parker), Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy), Sally Field (Aunt May), Martin Sheen (Uncle Ben, though in flashbacks). Along with the new cast members above, Chronicle actor Dane DeHaan will portray Harry Osborne. Marc Webb will once again direct.
