Paul Greengrass directing BLACKBEARD?

Mania.com say that Paul Greengrass is to favourite to direct BLACKBEARD, the Dreamworks movie based on the ruthless seafaring pirate Edward Teach which was greenlit in May. Unlike the kid friendly Disney film PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, Dreamworks' movie is likely to be a near R-Rated look at what the world of piracy was really like... David Franzoni (Amistad, Gladiator) wrote the screenplay, and the film is being produced by Barry Johnson and former Philadelphia 76ers prexy/co-owner Pat Croce, who wrote "Pirate Soul," a book that chronicled the golden era of piracy, which spanned 1690-1730. The movie will follow Teach's separation from the British Royal Navy after the War on Spain, turning to piracy along with his ship mates after feeling disowned by his country. There he became a ruthless pirate (TRUE) but the made up bit is where the main focus will be, said to be his former protege working for the British trying to hunt Teach down. Greengrass, the director of the last two BOURNE movies and UNITED 93 has recently completed work on his political thriller GREEN ZONE with Matt Damon. From there, he was rumored to work on THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7 from Aaron Sorkin's much lauded script but also has Universal desperately on his back for a fourth BOURNE movie. via - cinema blend
