Peter Berg is Gone Like the Wind

p1_barbaro_0719.jpgWhen I first read Variety's article today, I thought Jesus, Peter Berg is remaking Gone With the Wind. Is he insane? The truth is he is attached to helm Gone Like the Wind, a movie based on a Buzz Bissinger article in the August Issue of Vanity Fair about the 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro.
Barbaro won the 2006 Kentucky Derby so convincingly that many felt he could win horse racing's Triple Crown. Tragedy struck in the Preakness, when the horse bolted out of the gate and almost immediately shattered one of its rear forelegs.
The movie depicts the owners and trainers struggle to keep the horse alive and able to compete in a humane way. Peter Berg was a pretty obvious choice for this. He is actually the cousin or the article's author. Sounds a bit depressing for my liking but movies about death and horses usually go down well with the academy. It would not suprise me if this was up for Oscar contention when it gets round to being made.
