Peter Weir to helm Shadow Divers

10166442.jpgAussie director Peter Weir doesn't work very often these days (only 2 movies in the last 13 years!) but when those films are of the quality of Master and Commander and The Truman Show then he can take all the time he needs. It's been annouced today that the guy is in talks to direct Shadow Divers, a movie based on the non-fiction book Shadow Divers: The True Adventure of Two Americans Who Discovered Hitler's Lost Sub written by Robert Kurson. The book is based on the discovery of a sunken German U-Boat from WWII found 60 miles off the coast of New Jersey. Two young divers risk their lives in diving down to the wreckage desperate to identify the ship, which ends up taking six years of their lives. The script was written for the screen by Bill Broyles, who should be noted wrote the scripts for Cast Away and Apollo 13 which were both very well written scripts. The full title of the book sounds a hell of a lot better than just "Shadow Divers" and I think would get more people into the cinema with the words "Hitler's lost sub". Shame too, that the story doesn't quite match the great sounding title, still with Weir on board it should be at least mildly interesting. source - the hollywood reporter, coming soon
