Predicting The 10 Biggest Box Office Bombs Of 2019

1. Alita: Battle Angel

Budget: $175 million

Box Office Prediction: $290 million (projected $60 million loss)

No film in recent memory has had "flop" written over it as aggressively as Alita: Battle Angel.

The $175 million blockbuster may have James Cameron producing, but director Robert Rodgiruez has never helmed a movie anywhere close to this budget before, manga adaptations are historically tough sells to the western mainstream, lead Rosa Salazar isn't a name actress and it's releasing in a month with virtually no hype.

It's a shame as the more recent trailers actually look pretty encouraging, and it's clear that Cameron has been attentively overseeing production rather than just slapping his name on all the marketing.

If Fox was smart and truly believed in the movie, they'd be holding word-of-mouth screenings in January to drum up hype, but Alita's tepid mindshare suggests it's instead being sent out to die.

Early tracking from industry analysts isn't inspiring either, which would be a real shame if Alita indeed turns out as good as it looks.

Which movies do you think will end up 2019's biggest box office duds? Shout them out in the comments!
