Looking even closely through the new Empire magazine, producer Lauren Shuler Donner has unexpectedly revealed that sequels to X-Men 3: The Last Stand are still in ‘active development’ at Fox;
“We took the treatment to Fox and they love it… And X4 leads into X5″.
I’ve said it for years now, Fox made a huge creative mistake when they decided to produce their first Wolverine stand alone movie as a prequel, because I will contend until the day that I die that the way Hugh Jackman’s character was left devastated, heartbroken and in utter turmoil at the death of Jean Grey at the end of Brett Ratner’s movie makes for a far more interesting character to explore than ruining the mystery of his back story.
The X-Men franchise could have easily hit a dozen movies before a reboot was ever needed but I’m happy to hear X-Men 4 hasn’t been forgotten about and is still actively being developed in someway.
There’s no mention of who wrote the treatment but I would guess it’s probably Bryan Singer himself, who did the same for X-Men: First Class and seems to be circling a hands-on return to the franchise once he has made his fantasy re-imagining Jack and the Giant Killer this year.
Hopefully then we haven’t seen the end of Patrick Stewart’s Xavier, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos‘ Mystique, Anna Paquin’s Rogue, Ellen Page’s Kitty Pryde, Kelsey Grammar’s Beast and er, yeah, Halle Berry’s Storm…

Donner also said in regards to the long-gestating Deadpool spin-off from X-Men Origins: Wolverine;
“It’s a total reboot… We’re either going to pretend that didn’t happen – or mock it, which he could
It’s insane, it’s definitely comedy,
But it’s an R script, it’s really irreverent and violent. Right away, we’re out of the X-Men world”.

Small correction, X-Men First Class was written by Jane Goldman who wrote Kick-Ass and Stardust with XFC director Matthew Vaughn. Bryan Singer produced
The article says that Bryan Singer wrote the treatment, not the script.
Despite the almost universal hatred for X3 (of which I am not a part, I might add), I’m looking forward to X4 and X5. In fact, I don’t care about canon or critique despite being a life long X-Men fan. What I care about is enjoying more and more X-Films, period. Great news for me.
YESS!!! That is the news about Deadpool i wanted to hear. Violent and funny and probably making fun of X-Men Origins… Man do i want to see that movie!
Jeah x4 and x5 will be good too i think. I mean comicbook-movies are made to go on and on and on and on, so thats fine by me^^
Oh please God!!!! Please make Cyclops comeback in X4. Imagine Cyclops surviving the Phoenix in X3 The Last Stand. That would make an EPIC comeback & opening scene for X4.
And I’m really hoping he get’s special treatment this time. Considering Wolverine hogged all the spotlight from X1 to X3.
They could pair Scott Summers and Emma Frost in X4 and X5 like what Marvel are doing now in the comics.
I’m sure Cyclops is coming back, they never really concluded that he was dead and Jean was in Crazymode when it happened so she doesn’t know for sure.
According to the X-Men1stClass news Emma Frost is in it, probably around 20ish and it takes place in like 1960, so she would be like in her 70s… that relationship would be gross
I’m not to sure about X-Men 4 and 5. I loved X-Men 1,2,3 and Origins Wolverine and I think X-Men First Class and The Wolverine will kick ass if they stick to the movie continuity, X-Men Origins Wolverine Tied in perfectly with the X-Men Trilogy and I dont care what people say everything X-Men movie has been awesome. I think they ended it really well with The Last Stand but I guess X-Men 4 and 5 would be good if they went with the Days of Future Past Storyline. I would love to see that on the big screen. Keep Cyclops and Professor X dead though because I thought it ended very well with them being dead but there dream didnt die. X-Men 4 and 5 could be good if they did it the right way I trust them to pull it off well, they have done well so far with the x-men movies (no matter what people say) I am abit meh about it because the conclusion of X3 I thought it was brilliant and I know I am the only person in the universe that thinks that. I think X-Men 4 and 5 would be great but only if they did the Days of Future Past with the Sentenials and maybe through in Sinister alot of fans want him including me.
Wolverine was a great movie, [obscenity deleted]
I hope they bring back Cyclops, hopefully James Marsden will play him. I was really angry at how he hardly had any attention in X2 and X3! he’s meant to be the leader of the x-men, although i love hugh jackman’s role i think cyclops deserves it so hoping they’d give him that if they go through with it :) looking forward to this!
