QUANTUM OF SOLACE sets new records, ZACK AND MIRI make a flop!

Conflicting box office results for the two biggest releases of the weekend, one which is ruling the competition in the U.K. and one that is struggling in the U.S. First... QUANTUM OF SOLACE which opened exclusively on Friday in the U.K. (no Thursday night advanced screenings) grossed $8 million (£4.94 million) on it's first day of release. This beats out HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE ($6.5 million) to become the biggest ever opening day gross in this country. Previously, CASINO ROYALE grossed $4.7 million, so these totals just go to show how much love for that first movie has led to this huge sequel. And of course it's terrific advertising campaign which has seen several notable special t.v. appearances over the last fortnight, posters on virtually every bus in this country and it literally took over Radio 1 this week. QUANTUM OF SOLACE opens in two weeks time in the U.S Speaking of the U.S.... Kevin Smith's biggest budget movie to date ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO opened to just $2.3 million on Friday and according to Fantasy Mogul's Steve Mason won't hit higher than $7 million for the weekend. The movie budgeted at $25 million and staring actual actors in Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks was expected to be one of Smith's biggest ever hits but the tepid media advertising for a movie with the title "PORNO", has no doubt left it's mark on this poor showing. In fact, for Rogen who has achieved box office hit after box office hit, with several movies grossing over $20 million on it's opening weekend in the past three years, he has hit his first flop. ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO opens Nov. 14th in the U.K.
