Rachel Weisz to lead Brit spy thriller PAGE 8 with Nighy, Fiennes, Gambon & Davis

David Hare, the acclaimed playwright and Oscar nominated screenwriter of The Reader and The Hours is putting together a Brit spy thriller that reunites three players from The Constant Gardner - Rachel Weisz, Ralph Fiennes and Bill Nighy. The movie is Page 8, named after a secret document that is key to the plot and although the juicy story details are being kept under-wraps for now we do know Weisz will lead as a €œbeguiling woman of mystery€, Nighy will play a MI5 operative, Michael Gambon the head of security and unknown roles for Fiennes and Judy Davis. The BBC film is expected to shoot in January with Hare making his directorial debut in a film he wants to make purely €œto fill the gap in my own pleasurable cinema-going" as he was "conspicuous that there are very few modern spy films". Certainly I would agree and even less good ones. Conceivably the film won't affect Weisz's contention for one of two female lead parts in The Dark Knight Rises, as that one won't kick off till April. We're hoping 2011 can be the return of the great British made conspiracy thriller, as Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is also set to be remade with a mighty cast of talented people.
