Ranking October 2018's Movies From Worst To Best

18. Venom

Tom Hardy Venom
Sony

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 30% (4.5/10 average score)

Box Office: Produced for a sensibly "modest" (for a comic book blockbuster) $116 million, Venom turned out to be critic-proof, scoring the best October opening weekend of all-time and crossing the $500 million mark before the end of the month.

A stunning result, really, and an obvious guarantee that Venom 2 will be with us sharpish.

Verdict: Neither as awful as you feared nor as good as you hoped, Venom makes the most of a game - and bizarre - Tom Hardy performance even if the wildly wavering tone, inconsistent visual effects and inane plotting make it little more than a formulaic, oddly retro superhero flick.

Everyone can agree, though: that post-credits tease for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was dope as hell.
