Rebecca Hall Joins Iron Man 3 As Female Lead

Once touted by What Culture as a good choice to play Lois Lane in Warner Bros/DC's "Superman: The Man of Steel" (a role that Amy Adams instead landed), the Marvel filmic universe instead beckons for Rebecca Hall. Variety says "The Town" and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" star has landed the female lead role in the soon to be shooting "Iron Man 3", replacing Jessica Chastain who had to pass over scheduling. Hall will play Maya Hansen, a scientist working with Guy Pearce's baddie Dr. Aldrich Killian who creates the virus "Extremis", which is at the heart of the threequel's story. Although we should remember that Pearce isn't the main bad guy of the film. That part Ben Kingsley has landed, we think as Mallen, a villain responsible for the nanobots who take over Tony Stark€™s DNA. Roberto Downey Jr reprises Tony Stark for the fourth time now, Gwenyth Paltrow is back as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle (who sat out of The Avengers) returns as Rhodes with Andy Lau also rumoured to be joining the cast. "The Avengers" star Scarlett Johansson is taking a break and won't feature as Black Widow in this one. Legendary "Lethal Weapon" screenwriter Shane Black has co-wrote and will direct "Iron Man 3", his first film behind the camera since the excellent film noir love letter "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", which also starred Robert Downey Jr. Though Black was on something of a leash during the writing process with Marvel approved writer Drew Pearce (No Heroics) co-writing the screenplay with Black. "Iron Man 3" is due May 3rd, 2013, the first in the series not to be directed by Jon Favreau. Production begins in North Carolina this month.
