Screen Gems has just released a new banner poster for “Resident Evil: Retribution”. This is the fifth entry in the Resident Evil film franchise starring Milla Jovovich and based on the popular survival-horror video game.
Which means nothing in this film is directly rehashed from the four other RE movies that came before it. You will not see an armed Milla Jovovich trudging through desolated cities and ruined buildings. You won’t be seeing any ragtag bands of survivors fleeing zombies, mutated zombies, dog-like zombies and other zombie-like monstrosities. There will be no mention of the uber-powerful and totally unsinkable Umbrella Corporation. And none of that “My name is Alice, blah, blah, blah” nonsense either. Every scene is completely new. Yes, progress will finally occur story-wise.
Okay, I admit it; I enjoy this franchise. C’mon, what’s not to like? Much like the ‘Underworld’ films, the RE franchise has raised an audience out of fans of hot chicks with guns who hunt supernatural creatures. There’s nothing too high-brow or challenging about that concept. You get everything you see in those posters and trailers and for most moviegoers that’s a good thing. Why must we put up with guys like Christopher Nolan, Terrance Malick and David Lynch? We want to be entertained, damnit!
“Resident Evil: Retribution” stars Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Michelle Rodriguez, Johann Urb, Kevin Durand, and is directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. It is scheduled for a September 14, 2012 release date in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D.
