Ronda Rousey Wants To Kick-Ass As Captain Marvel

The MMA star fancies a punt at one of Marvel's leading ladies.

Ronda Rousey is everywhere at the moment. She's one of the biggest MMA stars on the planet, is currently caught in a verbal spat with Floyd Mayweather and recently announced plans to star in her own biopic. Busy girl. But through the miracles of Reddit, Rousey's listed another challenge she's be keen to undertake; popping her superhero cherry as Captain Marvel. Rousey expressed an interest in the part during an AMA session with fans. It's hard to discern what's intended as a statement of intent rather than off the cuff banter during these things (the printed word is never great for intonation), but with the Captain Marvel film still over three years away, it can't hurt Rousey to toss her name into the ring. Rousey's acting credits are sparse and unremarkable. She had a bit-part in the underwhelming Expendables 3 and popped up as herself (good practice for the biopic) in Entourage. Neither film was much cop, and both famously misfired at the box-office, although Rousey's small contributions were hardly factors. Still, she's not exactly proven herself as a thespian, and we know that Kevin Feige sees all his characters evolving from a very human, very intimate place. He's certainly only selected pedigreed actors and actresses for roles thus far. Rousey's physical abilities and raw presence aren't up for debate, but if the fighter really wants to convince Hollywood she's more than a formidable brawler - and angle for roles like Captain Marvel - she'd better select her next few projects carefully, and deliver some powerful work. Captain Marvel arrives in cinemas November 2018.
