Set Photos Reveal The Identity Of Spider-Man: Homecoming's Secondary Villain

With great images comes great excitement.

We've known with some confidence for a while that the villain of Marvel/Sony co-production (you have no idea how good it feels to write that) Spider-Man: Homecoming will be Michael Keaton's Vulture, but new set photos have shown a secondary criminal presence in the film.

Posted on Instagram (and shared through Twitter), they reveal Shocker, who many are assuming is Bokeem Woodbine's baddie. This isn't the first we've heard mention of this villain in the context of Homecoming, but those pictures (below) are pretty damn definitive. Contrary to the name, Shocker ain't no discount Electro; he's a career criminal who invents his own sonic arm gauntlets and takes the fight to Spider-Man (so yes, another mad scientist in some form).

I have to say this is pretty cool. Spidey has more villains than just Green Goblin and it's nice to see Homecoming make an effort to convey that. And boy does Shocker's costume look good; it's not as garish as the comic book version, but instead feels like a more a grounded take, which is exactly what's needed.

This does of course mean that the film is going into that well worn Spider-Man trope of multiple villains, although I'm certainly hoping things will be more balanced a la Marvel than the "f*ck it just throw another one in" approach Sony used for the past ten years.
