Slipknot's M Shawn Crahan To Direct Ultraviolent Comic Book Movie, Officer Downe

Joe Casey and Chris Burnham's comic series to get the big screen treatment.

Office Downie The premise of Joe Casey and Chris Burnham's Officer Downe comics is that an immortal cop can just tear through all kinds of chaos and rip right to the bad guys, even if it means half of his body is going to get temporarily torn to shreds while he's doing it. It's like Tackleberry from the Police Academy movies was made into Wolverine and given a Nick Offerman 'stache. The resulting comic, which I've only flicked through quickly, and not recently, is full of the kind of carnage and bad behaviour that brought to mind Frank Miller and Geoff Darrow's Hard Boiled. There's now a film of Officer Downe in development, and it's been announced in Berlin that Slipknot's M Shawn Crahan will direct. According to Deadline, Crank's Mark Neveldine is amongst the producers. Fans of the comic can rest assured that Casey is involved - indeed, he's written the current draft of the script, which is proper R-rated stuff. Who on Earth could they cast to play Downe, though? Somebody with the super-muscly build, who looks suitably sleazy in a pornstache, and who has the sense of humour to pull off the third person monologue that Downe sometimes delivers, narrating his over-the-top action. Well, the best I can think of is Terry Crews. Downe was white in the comic but it doesn't have to stay that way. If all goes to plan and Crahan's got at least moderate taste and sense as a director, then Officer Downe is a cult smash just waiting to happen. I'll keep an eye on this one, I think.
