Sony Want To Do To POPEYE What They Did To The Smurfs

The Smurfs writers Jay Scherick and David Ronn to scribe Sony's all-new animated version of Popeye.

With the stereoscopic 3D animated adaptation of The Smurfs earning over $550 million at the box office, it's no surprise to see Sony Pictures Animation pushing forward with their all-new animated version of Popeye with the same talent. Sony have announced that The Smurfs writers Jay Scherick and David Ronn will scribe Popeye, replacing writer Mike Jones who was first attached January 2010. When the adaptation of Popeye was first announced we heard it would "cover the themes of friendship, love, greed and life, and focus on human strengths and human frailties" and would be 100% CGI. We presume that is still the case. The love interest Olive Oyl, nemesis Bluto and adopted child Swee€™Pea will be part of the adventure hasn€™t been seen on the big screen since Robert Altman€™s bizarre live-action movie from 1980 with Robin Williams.
