JAMES BOND WILL RETURN So goes the perennial post-credits sting. As the dust settles and the last strains of music fade away, the final message is that, don't worry, James Bond will soon be back, now go and get on with your lives. Except sometimes, that's really not good enough. The ending of Spectre is so dumb, so baffling and so generally unsatisfying that the audience cannot help but be plagued by questions as the cinema lights rise. Why did James Bond just quit? What about the rest of Spectre? What's going to happen to the drone program? He's going to settle down with Madeleine Swann? Really? Her? The end of Spectre generates so much frustrated speculation that JAMES BOND WILL RETURN is not enough to quell the discontent. If the movie's ending is anything to go by, what happens next for all these characters, after the credits have rolled, will be so much more interesting that anything in the film. Inquiries will be made, lives will be ruined, hearts will be broken, and James Bond would almost certainly end up dead.
