Spider-Man 3 has biggest opening day of all time

spiderman32.jpgNo movie in the history of film has made more money on it's opening day of release than Spider-Man 3 made on Friday. Slash Film have the numbers, and they report that the film took in $59 million on it's opening day alone. The previous record for the highest grossing opening day was Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest which took home $55.8 million, and Spidey is well on the way to overtake Pirates' highest grossing opening weekend total of $135.6 million. Spider-Man 1 and 2 both made around $40 million on their respective weekends. To put into perspective how popular the Spider-Man franchise is we should compare it to 300. That Spartan movie is the highest grossing film of the year so far and that opened to $27.7 million before going on to make $70 million on it's opening weekend. You have to probably say first point goes to Dan in our friendly rivalry over which movie is going to be more popular this year out of Spidey 3 and Pirates 3, although I do expect Pirates 3 to be more popular than Dead Man's Chest... so Spidey's numbers might not be enough for this little contest.
