Spider-Man: Did Robert Downey Jr Spoil Captain America And Iron Man?

Could the stand-alone be Civil War 1.5?

The arrival of the first Civil War trailer has been big business for Marvel fans in the last week or so: it has sent the hype wheel spinning on an entirely new axis, adding intriguing new questions, teasing unexpected story elements and confirming that it won't be anything like the comic. But in his own over-excitement at not having to wait until Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out to see the trailer, Robert Downey Jr may have unwittingly confirmed that both he AND Chris Evans' Captain America might be set to reunite for another upcoming MCU movie. The pair of MCU leads turned up on the Jimmy Kimmel show to unveil the trailer, and in response to Evans' complaints about how hot it was in Atlanta during the shoot, Downey Jnr said "By the way, we are going to shoot in Atlanta again, you and I." Putting that together with Tom Holland's announcement to Superhero Hype that his Spider-Man stand-alone is set to film in Atlanta, it's not hard to see why the Internet detectives are getting the exciting answer that Cap and Iron Man might play some part:
"We€™re shooting in Atlanta for most of it, because they have studios there and I think it€™s cheaper to build a New York set than it is to shoot here, because it€™s going to be very expensive...We probably will end up here (in New York) for one week or two."
Obviously there are other possibilities, but it seems unlikely that the pair would appear in an of the other MCU films currently in production or starting to shoot. Doctor Strange is shooting everywhere BUT Atlanta, Thor Ragnarok is filming in Australia, Guardians Of The Galaxy is set in space (mostly) and Infinity Wars is a little way off just yet. So how could they both fit in? There was already a lot of talk about Tony Stark appearing in Spidey's films as a sort of mentor figure, giving him techy augmentations and possibly being responsible for his web-slingers. In light of the fact that Civil War is the next step in the MCU (and is likely to shape Phase 3 heavily), could there be a chance that Spider-Man will play a central role in the continued rivalry between Cap and Stark? If Kevin Feige is smart (he is), he might well use Civil War's Iron Spider story element to put Spidey at the heart of the tug of war between what remains of SHIELD and the pro-Accords force (assuming it isn't resolved at the end of Civil War) and Cap's underground team. He could have Stark's attempts to monitor (and limit) Spidey's powers play a key part in the main narrative as he fights an old enemy (most likely someone on the scale of Green Goblin), and have the ending see Spidey join with Cap. It might not be the way Marvel do it, but it's the way they SHOULD. What do you think of this news? Share your reactions below in the comments thread.
