Though few would've likely thought that the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming would end up being as important as it now is, with the film now heralding the arrival of the MCU's fourth phase, it's clear that the latest joint Sony-Marvel venture has a lot on its shoulders.

If Avengers 4 is going to be just as climactic, world-changing and as emotionally testing as Infinity War, and with the MCU set to change in a 'distinctly different' way from then on in, the as of yet untitled Spidey film is going to bring its own changes to the table. Guardians 3 will shoulder the burden too of course, but when it comes to examining the devastating effects of Marvel's most recent efforts, everyone's friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is set to take the lead.

And while the first film decided to take its inspiration from Ferris Beuller’s Day off, the sequel should really look to another John Hughes film for inspiration. The Breakfast Club was a film built around high school trauma, and in having a frank and honest discussion surrounding Thanos’ invasion, the film could find its true identity.
