Although Miles Morales is very much a part of the main Marvel Universe today, back when he was first introduced, he actually only existed in the Ultimate Universe - a spin-off line of comics that released at the start of the millennium.

Spider-Verse actually embraces several aspects of the Ultimate Universe too, going so far as to include that series' version of Green Goblin, who was a great big Hulk-esque monster who could breathe fire, as opposed to the original version of that character.

It's certainly a departure from the usual version of the character, who just so happened to be a psychotic evil businessmen, but here, Norman becomes a victim of OZ and ends up undergoing more of a physical transformation, as opposed to a mental one.
