Spider-Man Officially Joins Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Sony & Marvel strike historic partnership... Andrew Garfield likely dropped as Spider-Man.

Spiderman Infinity Spider-Man is officially coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have struck a landmark deal that would see Spider-Man first appear in a unspecified Marvel film (Captain America 3: Civil War makes a lot of sense given the storyline and is soon to shoot) before the next Spidey solo film is released on July 28th, 2017 in a co-Sony and Marvel production. Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige are the super-team producers behind the endeavour. Although both companies will collaborate together on the creative of the character, Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute and fully own the film rights to the Spider-Man universe, which includes having final say on the decisions that affect it. Now the floodgates are open, both companies can now explore all opportunities of cross-over characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films, and vice-versa. Curious by their absence from the press release are the names of Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb. Reading between the lines, it looks like they are both done with the series and these Marvel movies will birth a "new creative direction for the web slinger", which is heavily suggested in the wording;
Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films. Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.
As a consequence to this announcement, you can assume the much talked about Sinister Six movie is dead at Sony, as is what would have been The Amazing Spider-Man 3. This will be a new direction... a fresh start for Peter Parker. To accommodate him, Marvel have also done some switching of release dates;
- €œThor: Ragnarok€ will now hit theaters November 3, 2017. - €œBlack Panther€ will make its way to theaters on July 6, 2018 - €œCaptain Marvel€ arrives on November 2, 2018. - €œInhumans€ will now debut in theaters July 12, 2019.
