Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequels Could Steal From Harry Potter

One of the many criticisms levelled at The Amazing Spider-Man films was the speed with which it abandoned Peter Parker's school life. He seemed to go from skateboarding Dawson's Creek teenager to fully grown adult in a matter of moments, robbing fans of one of the biggest appealing factors of the comic book.

Luckily, it sounds like Marvel aren't going to jump the same gun.

According to Kevin Feige, in a new interview with Collider, the studio are already considering sequels:

“Should we be able to make more after that? Sure. This is sophomore year, is the next one junior year? Is the next one senior year? Is there a summer break between each of those? I don’t know what, but it was sort of how do we do a journey for Peter not dissimilar for what the students of Hogwarts would go through each of their years, which was one of the early ideas we had for the movies.”

Presumably he doesn't mean actual Potions classes and awkward flirting with magical nerds, because that would be a wild deviation.

Obviously there's a slight issue here: he might look young now, but Tom Holland is already 20 and is unlikely to keep his youthful appearance forever. We could end up with an actual Dawson's Creek situation where nobody realises that one of the students is clearly a full grown man with a backwards cap pretending he's not yet ravaged by the grim hands of time.

Considering how Marvel do business, it's likely we'll see another Spider-Man film in 2 or 3 years after Homecoming's release (with it more likely to be a shorter period given Sony's enthusiasm to get their property back out into the world and profitable). Perhaps the second film will kick off Phase 4 after Infinity War ends in May 2019?
