Star Trek: 10 Highly Questionable Actions Committed By Captain Kirk

9. Firing Inoperable Phasers

Kirk_McCoy_wormhole So here we are, one bad decision right after the last one and our beloved Captain Kirk picks right up where he left off, ordering Mr. Chekov to prep to fire phasers at an asteroid, inside the wormhole. There's just one wee problem: The ships new design, the one that Kirk evidently didn't devote much time to getting to know before taking over the center seat from Commander Decker, now channels phaser power through the warp engines. When a ship's warp drive is sent into anti-matter absurdity, i.e. getting flung through a wormhole, (excuse the techno babble) phaser power is automatically rendered neutral. Brilliant! Right as Kirk is so insistent on firing phasers, Decker thankfully belays the order and saves the ship from being smashed into oblivion by ordering torpedoes to be launched instead. Yet another questionable action all within the same feature film. We've only just begun....
