Star Trek 3: 5 Reasons The Borg Should Be The Villains

star trek borg With Star Trek into Darkness doing very healthy business and exceeding its predecessor€™s worldwide gross by a cool few million dollars, it€™s pretty inevitable that we€™ll be seeing a third movie in J.J Abram€™s rebooted universe soon enough. Whether Abrams will be the man to helm it due to Star Wars commitments is another matter entirely, but something that fans have been discussing is just who the antagonist could be for The Enterprise€™s next adventure. As they embark on a deep space exploration and venture through uncharted territory, whose paths might they cross? All signs indicate that The Klingons will take centre stage, and that does seem logical (to paraphrase a certain Vulcan officer). Damon Lindelof, when quizzed on who it could be, seemed to imply this was the case, but also suggested that later instalments (if indeed there will be any more from the Bad Robot braintrust after a thirteen entry in the series) could feature villains from The Next Generation, such as Q and The Borg. The rebooted Klingons in this alternate timeline have potential, sure. But having never been a massive Trek fan, I did enjoy reruns of The Next Generation as a kid. And though I was never particularly impressed by the rogue€™s gallery, one species terrified me then and still fascinates me now. And that is The Borg. Maybe it€™s because First Contact was on TV the other night, but I feel that The Borg are the ideal villain for the next Star Trek movie, and we should them sooner rather than leter. Maybe you disagree- but read on and let me persuade you. You will be assimilated to my viewpoint. Resistance is futile.
