We don’t know much about Star Wars Episode 7, but we can safely assume one thing: it won’t be set in spaceships and space stations alone. Eventually someone’s going to put some boots on the ground.
That ground could easily be planets already found in Star Wars books, comics, games, etc., otherwise known as the Expanded Universe (EU). True EU is considered canon, though subordinate to film canon, and essentially has Lucas’s thumbs up. Coruscant is perhaps the best example of the influence of EU on the films. Lucas had some basic ideas about it, but it was first realized in books and only later used in the prequels (and in Episode 6 via some “re-imagining”).
So the heavy lifting in planet creation has already been done by EU writers, so why not use these fan-approved planets instead of creating the next Tatooine from scratch? And the thought of Episode 7 just recycling past movie planets is nearly unbearable. I could go my whole life without seeing Naboo again and die a happy man.
Assuming Abrams and company are cool with dipping their pen in the EU inkwell, here’s our choices for 5 planets they must visit from the Expanded Universe.
5. Dantooine
Dantooine is one of those planets often mentioned in the original films, but we’ve never seen it in a live-action movie. It was the original Rebel Alliance base before they moved to Ewok-ville (Yavin IV), and it was inches away from being the first test of the Death Star (Alderaan took its place).
It’s also been extensively used in the Expanded Universe, sometimes just as a stopping point or pit stop. It’s a farming community on a planetary scale, essentially, and would make a nice home for the farmboy Luke. It’s past as a Rebel base also means it could be used as a future base for completely expelling the Empire’s remnants, if that’s the plot for the new trilogy. It was also home to a Jedi enclave, or training facility, and would again be an easy choice for Luke putting down roots.

“Ewok-ville” was Endor, not Yavin IV.
Whoops! Yeah, it was a transposition error from a previous draft. My mistake!
Yavin 4 ewok-ville? WRONG!
DAntooine was Destroyed in by the death star, so how in the hell can there be more lore unless its from KOTOR?
Jason Boyd, g back to star trek and refresh your lore.
Dantooine wasn’t destroyed by the Death Star. Tarkin chose Alderaan instead because Dantooine was too “remote.”
As a hardcore Fanboy, not only does your mistake speaks volumes to me, but your arrogance makes me believe you’re the type that claims to love Star Wars but only have really watched it a few times. Jason made an honest editing mistake, you had access to a computer and wanted to feel superior and were still wrong. You give us Fanboys a bad name.
Korriban, the origin planet of the nemesis of the Jedi, the Sith.
Good pick!
Right?
You totally need to go back to Naboo! Duh!
The Expanded Universe does not matter. I hope nothing of that crap will me in the movies. No character, no planet.
If you ever bothered to read the books or play any of the video games, specifically the masterly crafted Knights of The Old Republic games, you might see that a lot of these places have potential. I regard the two KoTOR games (not the MMO video game, thats utter crap) as better than the prequel trilogy.
KOTOR 2 is an abomination, the story is awful, the characters are completely unlikeable and the planets and places are almost all the same.
Dxun from Kotor 2!
Myrkr or Wayland! the emperor’s storehouse and the planet with force sensitive hunters!
Would love to see Talon Karrde as well
Dantooine is just Kansas with Kath hounds. Boring.
Corellia would be interesting, but I would prefer Ord Mantell. Its immense junkyards would be a very interesting setting.
Rather than Nal Hutta, Nar Shadaa, its moon, would be more interesting. As part of a darker, grittier Star Wars this seedier version of Coruscant would make an excellent setting for adventure.
Korriban is an easy choice, but it did not make your list. Ilum is not as interesting as Korriban.
As far as Serindipal, there needs to be more of a reason for including a planet than simply “someone dies there.” They can kill off characters in a million different ways.
I am surprised that Vjun is not on your list either. Being that it was the personal fortress world of Darth Vader, I think it would be a natural place for his grandchildren to visit some day in order to learn from grandpa’s mistakes.
Overall, I like your list and would be happy to see any of them on film. We each have our favorites that we would like to see. :)
How about a memory of Alderaan. That would be refreshing and beautiful, maybe arwenesque. Also, how about the Kessel mines. How about show Naboo accidentally being destroyed by the New Republic. How about show the Shards of Alderaan. Kashyyk of course.
Nar Shadda!
What about Tython birth place of the jedi order
Why not Mandalore, Jango Fetts’ home world, and eventually Boba Fetts as well, even thogh Boba still perfers to live in Slave 1, his ship. What a better place than a race of people who have fought in many major wars through out EU history, they’ve worked with the Sith in the past as well. Boba did with Vader. Obviously it would only be a side planet though.
Korriban!!!
also, nar shadda from jeci outcast game, taris type planet (but was destroyed) and chandrila from jedi academy games.
Byss – The Emperor’s secret Thone World.
Bastion – The capital world of the Imperial Remnant.
Hapes – The Solo’s grandchild is from there.
Kuat – The birthplace of many of the starships seen in the movies.
Kesh – Lost Tribe of the Sith.
Mon Calamari – “It’s a trap!”
Trandosha – Bossk’s homeworld.
Ziost – Ancient Sith world.
Of course the ones mentioned above are all great too!
