Star Wars Episode 9 Returning To Yavin 4?

Welcome (back) to Yavin 4.

Lucasfilm

Production is expected to start on Star Wars Episode IX this month, and now there are reports that it's returning to a familiar filming location.

According to Star Wars News Net, Episode IX's production will be going to Cardington Airship Sheds, which is home to a very notable location in the Star Wars universe: Yavin 4.

Shed 1 was used as the Rebel base in the original 1977 movie, while Shed 2 served as the location in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The sheds have been used for a number of other blockbusters in recent years, including the likes of Justice League, The Dark Knight, and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, so Lucasfilm returning there doesn't necessarily mean it's for Yavin 4, but it does certainly raise the possibility.

The Last Jedi ended with what's left of the Resistance in need of a new home, after both D'Qar and then Crait came under attack. Furthermore, J.J. Abrams is known for including plenty of fan-service, and it could be a nice way of bringing the saga full circle with this closing out not just the new trilogy but likely the Skywalker saga.

There's another link too, as the expanded materials released by Disney (which are canon) have revealed that Yavin is Poe Dameron's homeworld, on which his parents planted a Force-sensitive tree (a tree gifted to them by Luke Skywalker, no less). It wouldn't be a surprise if he had the idea of leading the Resistance there to form a new base.
