Star Wars Episode VIII: 9 Subtle Clues In The Force Awakens You Missed

8. Kylo Ren's Mask Was Destroyed

Kylo Ren's appearance may have deliberately evoked memories of Darth Vader, but he didn't need it to live in the same way his grandfather did. However, that doesn't mean it wasn't an important part of who he is: it masks his former self, and helps him stand closer to what he wishes to be. The last we saw of the mask, though, he was taking it off for a confrontation with his father. After that, in which nothing remarkable happened and absolutely no one died, he battles Finn and Rey in the snow without his mask, meaning it almost certainly got destroyed along with Starkiller Base. Of course, he doesn't need any faceplate, but it's established as a big part of his identity, and that means we can expect a new one in Episode VIII, perhaps leading to a noticeably different appearance for Kylo Ren.
