Star Wars: Game Of Thrones Creators Developing New Movie Series
Well, holy sh*t.
Just when you thought there wasn't much more Disney could do to ensure they're monopolising fandom, the mega-corporation has only gone and made two of the most impressive hires for Star Wars that they could ever have.
We're going to get a new series of Star Wars films developed, written and produced by Game of Thrones show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
And in case you're a Rian Johnson and The Last Jedi fan worrying what this means for his already-announced new trilogy of Star Wars movies, worry no more. According to the press release announcing this development, the Weiss/Benioff series will be completely separate from both the Skywalker Saga and whatever Johnson is making.
We have no release date yet, but Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has expressed her excitement:
“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

And the best news for anyone currently quivering with excitement at the idea of the Thrones show-runners turning their hand to Star Wars is that because they're not directing, they probably can't be fired a few months down the line. Well, fingers crossed anyway.
Now the question is what the pair will be making for LucasFilm, and given their precedent in the Seven Kingdoms, you'd like to think they'd be handed the chance to make a Knights Of The Old Republic saga (even though that MIGHT work better as a Thrones-style TV show).
Whatever they make, let's hope they bring in Miguel Sapochnik to direct one of them (don't take anything from his previous movie Repo Men, just look at his Thrones record for evidence of why). Either way, hugely exciting news.
