Star Wars Live-Action TV Show Set Photos Hint At Return To Iconic Location

Production is underway on Jon Favreau's live-action Star Wars TV show, and the first set photos suggest that it's going back to a very familiar location.

The photos, which come courtesy of Making Star Wars, tease a desert setting that certainly has a lot in common with Tatooine, which, pre-Disney, appeared in five of the six produced Star Wars movies. A lot of the architecture and setting, which is being shot in California, invokes memories of Luke Skywalker's home world, with MSW even noting moisture vaporators, although not the exact same ones from A New Hope.

Of course, this could be another desert planet, such as Jakku, with the timeline of the series taking place a few years after Return of the Jedi, or it could be a completely new desert planet instead. However, with Disney looking to make this a guaranteed hit - including a huge budget - then a return to Star Wars' most famous and meaningful planet would be a good place to start.

The series will reportedly have some focus on Mandalore, but it's unlikely to be set on just one location, and to that end Tatooine makes sense as a way of tying things back to the Original Trilogy.

There's no release date or cast announced yet, but the show is expected to debut on Disney's streaming service sometime next year.
