In 1999, the history of Star Wars - and indeed of blockbuster film-making as a whole - was changed fundamentally with the release of the first of George Lucas' Prequel Trilogy. Widely considered one of the most hyped releases of all time, the film channeled what felt like a new wave of fandom - aided by an aggressive marketing campaign the likes of which had never been seen before.
Of course, The Phantom Menace is far from a universally cherished film. In fact, it is often held up as cause for mockery of Lucas' creative megalomania. But you cannot argue with how much it made at the box office even if the critical response has always been a little more patchy. And nor can you argue with how it dialled into a whole new generation of Star Wars fans, kicking off the platform for the TV shows, video games and movies that have been released in the twenty years since.
On the occasion of its 20th anniversary year, how much do you actually remember about the film that brought us Darth Maul, Jar Jar Binks and midi-chlorians?
