One of the most unexpected Easter eggs in Rogue One is the inclusion of unused footage from A New Hope, featuring Red Leader (Drewe Henley, who passed away earlier this year) and Gold Leader (Angus MacInnes) on manoeuvers during the film's climactic space battle.

They may be small characters in the grand scheme of things, but it's still a nice tidbit for fanboys to have that connective tissue joining the two movies.

Also, somewhat hilariously, Red 5 has a brief cameo during the battle before getting predictably killed off, leaving the spot open for Luke to take up in A New Hope.
