Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Does C-3PO Lose An Arm?

Does nobody look after their limbs in a galaxy far, far away?

Having kept the majority of Star Wars: The Force Awakens' specific plot details well under wraps - aside from the carefully chosen material that was meant to be released - JJ Abrams might well be slightly annoyed that yet another toy company has spoiled something. LEGO and Hasbro pretty much went out of their way to ruin some of the story for Age Of Ultron, and it's becoming increasingly frequent for merchandisers to accidentally hint at something big in their tie-in partners. The latest subject of those unintentional spoilers is the fate of C-3PO's arm in The Force Awakens, as it seems he's set to become the latest Star Wars character to have a limb chopped off. If the image of an officially licensed drinking cup is anything to go by, the droid will join Luke, Mace Windu, General Grievous, Darth Vader, Anakin and Zam Wessell in seeing an arm removed. And it appears from the image that the missing appendage will be replaced by a rather fetching red number. It would appear that the arm is "borrowed" from a TC-series protocol droid (AKA TC 3PO) that were mostly made to serve aboard space stations, and which were usually red or silver and which lacked the eccentric behaviour the 3PO units were known. Threepio is actually cobbled together from other TC-series components in the earlier films, so this effectively looks like a double nod back to the original trilogy. Another image of a child's desk and chair set have also leaked offering a new look at Kylo Ren and his Stormtroopers, along with another look at C-3PO and fellow droids BB-8 and R2-D2.
With merchandise for the film beginning to appear with retailers, it's likely more information will be gleaned from the tie-in lines, particularly if LEGO unveil their typically narrative-heavy sets early. So there's a good chance there are more spoilers to come.
