Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 8 Fan Theories That Make Appalling Sense

Ring true, these do.

The Star Wars fanbase is a force to be reckoned with.

It's always been a hive of fervent speculation, debate and shrewd theorising, and in the run-up to The Last Jedi, this has been especially true.

Sure, it's got its fair share of basement dwellers who are overzealous to the point of listing 'Jedi' as their religion on official census surveys, but some Star Wars fans are almost as enlightened in the ways of the Force as Yoda himself.

Case in point, a Reddit user actually called Episode VIII's official title one year before it was revealed as The Last Jedi, and this isn't the only fan prediction that has hit home like that missile which took out the Death Star.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens left a tonne of interesting questions behind - who's that Snoke guy and what's his deal? Who are Rey's parents, and which member of the original cast will they bump off next?

If you want answers before The Last Jedi arrives in December, look no further than the master theorists within the saga's dedicated fanbase.

8. Rey Is A Kenobi

The Theory

Rey's parentage is one of the most burning questions the sequel trilogy must address. Is she a Kenobi, a clone, Luke's daughter or Darth Vader reincarnated?

Fan speculation that has been doing the rounds online pegs her as the former, and when you hear the evidence you'll realise this is the Rey theory you're looking for.

The Evidence

There's stacks of it. Along with being the only Star Wars hero besides Obi-Wan to speak with a British accent, that scene from the Force Awakens where Rey performs a Jedi mind trick on a Stormtrooper is straight out of old Ben Kenobi's repertoire.

Perhaps more telling is Rey's role in the sequel trilogy, the way it mirrors Obi-Wan's in the earlier films. He's the Merlin-like archetype who helps the hero discover his weapon, in this case Luke's blue Lightsaber, the saga's answer to Excalibur.

At the end of The Force Awakens, when Rey is returning the laser sword to its rightful owner, a direct parallel between her and Ben Kenobi emerges.

The fan consensus is that she's his granddaughter. Although Luke's mentor has never been involved in a romance to our knowledge, he had plenty of time to find one during his Tatooine exile between the events of Episode III and IV.
