The internet was sent into meltdown yesterday at the reveal of the latest Star Wars title, and director Rian Johnson has wasted no time in toying with fans as he teases the opening crawl of the film with a candid shot from the editing bay on Instagram.

As the caption dictates, the picture features the newly confirmed title being added to the famed opening crawl, a sight many Star Wars fans will consider a relief after the exclusion of the opening crawl in last year's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Unfortunately, the preview begins and ends with the title over the classic backdrop, but it's exciting nonetheless to see the birth of one of the first shots audiences will see with they sit down for Episode VIII on December 15th this year.

On the note of plot, many fans have been theorising about the potential for a darker tone in the film since the hiring of Johnson, in what would be a similar shift in tone to what The Empire Strikes Back gave us when compared to A New Hope. Johnson, however, told USA Today in a previous interview that he hopes to keep the fun-factor introduced by The Force Awakens.

“I want it to be a blast and to be funny and to be a ride the way The Force Awakens and the original Star Wars movies were.”

Although it's hard to believe that Johnson won't bring at least a slightly darker tone considering his previous work with Brick and Looper, we're just going to have to wait until December 15th to find out for sure.
