Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Expect Way More BB-8 Comedy

Rian Johnson can't get enough of the little droid...

BB-8 is the new MVP of the Star Wars galaxy.

From the moment the little ball droid appeared in the first trailer for The Force Awakens, it was pretty obvious how much of an impact he was going to have on the new generation of Star Wars fans. Flash forward to the end of that movie, and it was affirmed.

And now, with The Last Jedi promising to return the droid and his "master" Poe Dameron to the screen, fans can start getting hyped for more of the same adorable comedy. Much more of it, by the sound of it, as BB-8 is set to continue to be the comic relief - which is likely to feel far more necessary as the plot darkens considerably for the sequel.

Rian Johnson has alluded to the comedic spirit the character brings to proceedings, drawing a parallel with a legend of physical comedy performance, and revealing that his predecessor's team suggested he includes as much BB-8 as possible:

“The best advice I had was from [J.J. Abrams’] editors who said you can’t get enough of BB-8. He’s the Buster Keaton of [The Last Jedi].”

So, lots of sight gags then.

We can no doubt expect to see BB-8 used as our eyes on the battlefield, reacting to the chaos the same sort of way C-3PO and R2-D2 did in the original trilogy and dialling up the delightful dynamic we saw in The Force Awakens even further.

Let's just hope they don't push it too far and we get a mechanised Jar Jar Binks...
