Suicide Squad: Disappointing First Look At Full Villain Team

David Ayers tweets first reveal of Task Force X.

Hot on the tail of the accidental reveal of Will Smith's Wild Wild West-style Deadshot and the most divisive Joker image ever seen on the net, David Ayers has finally revealed the rest of the Suicide Squad. The director took to Twitter to unveil a new photo featuring nine characters - though curiously avoiding an official look at the Joker for now - including Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc and Captain Boomerang. The image is something of a mixed bag to say the least. Smith's Deadshot certainly looks more convincing than he did in full '70s garb on set, and there are some great character designs in there (Cara Delevigne's Enchantress looks intriguing), but it's all very uneven. It's hard not to look at Killer Croc, Harley Quinn and El Diablo and not see Batman's Breakfast Club. Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn is the biggest issue. While it's already very clear that Warner Bros are trying not to compete with other versions of the characters too much, her restrained version looks more like a half-baked fan cosplay. And you have to imagine they're going more for an AJ Lee-like crazy chick feel, which is a little on the nose. Meanwhile Will Smith's Deadshot might look a lot better, but it's like he's from a different film entirely with Adam Beach's Slipknot and Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flagg. Mostly because they look like they've had a wash recently. David Ayers also tweeted a full reveal of Smith in costume... https://twitter.com/DavidAyerMovies/status/595025398456430593/photo/1 Even though Suicide Squad is certainly the more exciting of Warner Bros. upcoming Batman universe properties, it's difficult to see how Ayers is going to balance all of these elements, plus Batman, Lex Luthor and the Joker without some of them coming off as under-developed. Which is precisely what some of these characters look like.
