He REALLY wants you to think he's got the gig...

So far, the saga of whether Josh Gad is set to play The Penguin has been one of the most interesting of the year, not least because it would be so unexpected. The Beauty & The Beast actor has flirted with the rumour openly on social media, suggesting that he was simply putting his desire to play the character out there when called on his mischievous posting of Penguin images.

If his agenda was to get a meeting with DC to discuss the possibility of being cast as Oswald Cobblepot, it looks like it might have all worked. He's just posted this shot on Twitter of him meeting some pretty important DC head honchos...

His caption might be comically misleading, but the sight of him standing shoulder to shoulder with the heads of DC Films - Geoff Johns and Jon Berg - while holding a Penguin cover says a lot. For instance, there's absolutely no way the studio would entertain this kind of misdirection if it wasn't leading somewhere.

Whether Gad would be a good addition to the DCEU at this stage remains to be seen, but he's definitely a gifted actor and one whose style could work for a Tim Burton-style performance, which is no bad thing. It's not like he'd be the first comedy actor to play a villain in a Batman movie, after all.
