The Batman: Will The Dark Knight Meet Penguin?!
Time to welcome back an old friend?
While some of the upcoming DCEU movies that are supposedly still in the works seem intent on doubling down on the Joker and Harley Quinn as the main villain brand, it seems Matt Reeves might have other ideas.
The incoming director of The Batman has apparently set his sights on another old foe of the Dark Knight for his stand-alone sort-of-reboot: Penguin. That's according to Variety reporter Justin Kroll who says that Reeves might have settled on Oswald Cobblepot as his main bad guy (though the caveat is that the script isn't yet finalised so it's not yet set in stone).
Additionally, Kroll says that his sources claim that one of the scripts for Birds Of Prey also has the Penguin in there, so there's two potential chances for us all to see his return to the big screen.
Hopefully, the introduction of Penguin would mean we'll get to see some more darkness than we might have if Ben Affleck's vision had made it to the big screen. As nice as it would have been to see Deathstroke, few people could honestly say that they want an all-out slugfest. We want creepy. We want oddball. We want something closer to Tim Burton's vision, because it will suit Matt Reeves as a director.
Here's hoping it comes off (or at least the Birds Of Prey alternative does)...
