Updated: Poll has been updated with some of your suggestions. Rather shamefully I didn’t think about Paul Greengrass and especially Joss Whedon!
As last week’s poll regarding The Dark Knight Rises ending garnered over 3,000 votes and discussion on Chris Nolan’s exhilarating and controversial epic final chapter in his Batman saga continues to dominate discussions around here, I have decided to setup another audience poll.
Now this one won’t be asking the question of whether the next Batman movie should be a reboot or a sequel. We all have our differing opinions on this and that was more or less the discussion last week.
This poll is instead interested in who should take the most enviable job in the world and deliver the next Batman movie.
My personal favourite and the first vote on this poll goes to Ben Affleck, perhaps because I see the Batman character existing in a crime universe in a real-world environment. Affleck has delivered two modern classics in the genre with The Town and Gone Baby Gone, has a third coming in October and is maturing to a perfect point in his film-making career, indeed the point Nolan was at ten years ago, where he is ready to be given a shot at the big budget mainstream. He is also a huge comic book fan, could have played Bruce Wayne himself in the past (and still could, I feel but that’s not what I want to see) and is now setup to be in a very comfortable at Warner Bros.
But I know a lot of you guys like different versions of Batman that you enjoy. You perhaps might want something more stylised, something more supernatural and fantasy like or something more Gothic like the Tim Burton era we all have a soft spot for. Whatever it is you want to see from the next Batman movie and who you want to direct it, I want to hear about it in the poll and in the comments below…

I strongly support the idea of Paul Greengrass as a successor on a continuation, not a reboot, of the Chris Nolan world.

Wow. I’m less bothered about the reboot/continuation debate, but yeah, Greengrass could deliver a very interesting Batman…
I cant believe people are seriously voting for no Batman films unless Nolan is involved…
lol ..u do know u r in the extreme minority who didn’t like Nolan’s Batman movies r8 ?
DAVID FINCHER
David Fincher, or Paul PT Anderson.
Nolan deserves a vow of gratitude from us all. Comic book movies would all be campy, stupid or dim-witted comedies were it not for him and his staying the course.
Anybody who wants a comic book movie to make them laugh needs to watch The Hangover/American Pie/Judd Apatow’s latest abomination. Comic book’s have been “dark” for 35 years, the movies must reflect this. Comic book movies ONLY work when they take themselves dead seriously, as if this stuff could/is really happening in OUR world.
Whomever WB picks the mandate must be clear: go serious, or go home!
I know his directing schedule is really busy but, no suggestion for Guillermo del Toro! Can you imagine what he would do with Batman’s villians? Awesome…..
No mention of Rob Rodriguez?
Robert Rodriguez??
