THE DARK TOWER Heads To HBO!

Producer Brian Grazer claims HBO have stepped in to make the t.v. side of The Dark Tower with conjoining films still planned.

Yesterday I sounded more than a little skeptical that Ron Howard's attempts to bring Stephen King's The Dark Tower to screens would ever actually come to anything after Universal pulled the plug on it, but damnit it looks like he and producer Brian Grazer has done it. Or are at least close anyway. Once again doing press rounds for Tower Heist, Grazer tells MTV;
"We're going to do ['The Dark Tower'] with HBO," Grazer told MTV. "We'll do the TV with HBO, and we'll do the movie with...to be determined. We'll do it right."
HBO! HBO! HBO! Though the plan is still do television series' and films, so presumably the hunt is on for a partner to HBO:
"We're going to do that movie. We've lost $45 million out of the budget. When people say no to you enough, then you have to lose money, which we've done without harming the scope of the film."
Grazer also confirms Javier Bardem is still committed to playing the lead role of Roland Deschain. You know for years I was hoping, praying, secretly sacrificing police officers like Sergeant Howie on Wicker Man's so the day might come that The Dark Tower would head to HBO. This is the home of Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones and all those impossibly cool and epic minded shows. This is where The Dark Tower should be made. I once had a conversation with a bigger Stephen King fan than me who said HBO should adapt each novel of King's epic sci-fi, fantasy western The Dark Tower books each as an individual series and whilst we aren't quite getting that with the films inbetween still seemingly planned, hell it's not a bad substitute is it? Now come on Warner Bros, make that call to Howard and let's get The Stand/The Dark Tower made concurrently and do the Stephen King film universe the right way.
