The Hunger Games: 10 Biggest Changes From The Books

Losing a whole lot of symbolism for a few minutes runtime, but is it worth it?

The Hunger Games books were extremely popular and their film counterparts have proven to be similarly admired. With Jennifer Lawrence portraying Katniss Everdeen, she has earned the franchise a plethora of adoring fans, many of which have never read the books on which the films are based. That means they are unaware of things that have been changed or those that don€™t make the cut into the cinematic universe. As with most successful books that are turned into films, the cinematic versions are often designed and created as pieces of work that can stand alone as a separate entity. That has proven so with Harry Potter, and is even a method of adaptation that is often seen in TV shows, just look at Game of Thrones. However, not all viewers of the movies have read the books, something that die-hard fans often perceive as a flaw of character, and it means they are sometimes unaware of key plot points or character importance as early as the readers. Similarly, with every adaptation there is always going to be certain aspects of the book that won€™t make the screen version of the story for whatever reason, be it timing, structure or in some cases, the specific plot point not being necessary in the film world. Naturally directors will use their own creative license and implement it into their films, meaning that fans of the series will complain as their favourite parts are excluded or other points drawn out or changed for effect. So, with that in mind, let us take a look at the 10 biggest changes from the books to the screen and discuss whether the decisions that the filmmakers ultimately took was a good one or a bad one. As a warning, huge spoilers from the books are prevalent throughout, so read on with that caution in mind!
