Despite much desire from fans for more, “The Inbetweeners” star James Buckley has warned that we may have seen the last of these characters and that the E4 series is “unlikely to return”.
Reports spread last month that Buckley – who ironically played the compulsive liar Jay Cartwright in the show – hinted that a fourth series was planned and in the offing, which would include a major character’s death. Soon after those quotes appeared in the Daily Mail, the creators of the show vehemently denied that a follow-up to last year’s mega successful film was being worked on and called the reports “total b*llocks”.
Speaking about his alleged previous claims, Buckley recently told NME;
“I’ve not been spoken to about it at all. I’ve had interviews in the paper just completely made up.
“I’ve not spoken to anyone for six months. There was an interview in the Daily Star where I was quoted saying we were going to do a fourth series and one of the characters was going to die, which wasn’t true.”
He added;
“There are no plans to do any more, unfortunately. I think that will be the last you see of The Inbetweeners.”
As we said last month, James Buckley and the rest of the cast of The Inbetweeners – Joe Thomas (Simon Cooper), Simon Bird (Will McKenzie) and Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland) – have all distanced themselves from another series with the big-screen film The Inbetweeners Movie seen as the last hurrah for a while.
However after that film grossed a massive $76 million in the UK alone, becoming one of the biggest ever Brit films of all time, a sequel seems a certainty within the next couple of years. There was enough hints in the last series and movie that the next chapter for the Inbetweeners would revolve around a university setting.
Despite James’ comments, I doubt we’ve seen the last of The Inbetweeners.

I was pleasantly surprised by this film. I wanted to hate it but that was before I watched a few episodes and realised the characters were well fleshed out. A great English alternative to the American Pie.
