The Martian - New Stills Drop For The Sci-Fi Adaptation

Matt Damon looks very lost in space.

The marketing machine for Ridley Scott's The Martian has really jumped up a gear in the last few weeks. Following a second trailer, Empire have unveiled a pair of new set photos from the upcoming sci-fi adaptation. Check them out below.
The Martian follows astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) after he's left stranded on an alien planet in error. Watney has to find a way to survive, whilst his superiors back on earth debate whether a rescue mission is a viable course of action. The stills don't reveal much extra, rather just emphasising Damon's prevalence in the movie, and underlining the complications of shooting a story set in space. Although, as someone who hasn't the read the book, the fact Damon looks to be underwater in one of the images seems like an odd, but potentially intriguing development, The Martian's a Ridley Scott joint (so expect the movie to be lush), and it's based on a well received book by Andy Weir. After Prometheus and Exodus: Of Gods and Kings, you wouldn't be blamed for supposing Scott had lost his storytelling touch, so perhaps here the novel will keep him on course. Aside from Damon, The Martian also stars Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Kristen Wiig and Chiwetel Ejiofor. It opens in the UK on 30th September 2015 and follows a bit later Stateside on 2nd October.
