“Next time” said Terrence Howard’s Col. Jim Rhodes admiring the IRON MAN suit in his good friend Tony Stark’s basement towards the end of this year’s Marvel epic.
It got me excited, I almost geeked out in the theatre much to the dismay of my girlfriend who didn’t have a clue what I was talking about. For those in the know, it was clearly a not so subtle hint from director Jon Favreau that he wanted the character to grow in the sequel to take on the mantle of War Machine.
It’s clear Favreau had big plans for Howard and they had a great bond. But once again, those tight-fisted idiots at Marvel (who remember, nearly dropped Favreau himself because he wanted a slight pay rise) have dropped the Howard from the movie’s sequel and replaced him with the cheaper Don Cheadle.
It’s pretty clear from the wording of The Hollywood Reporter that Cheadle was very much Marvel’s casting and not Favreau’s, the studio wanting him for this project for quite some time.
Well I’m shocked that Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. haven’t walked on the project because of this. I mean I’m sure they put up a fight because it was clear from the press those three guys did for the movie, they had a great friendship and Bond.
Marvel couldn’t afford to lose Downey Jr. He should have threatened to walk if Howard didn’t get the money he wanted… unless of course his demands were WAY high.
Well this is one of those annoying situations when a big comic book character has been replaced so early on and just when we were looking forward to seeing Howard grow with a much bigger part. I like Cheadle and all, he is a great actor. But man, Howard had such a likeability and felt like Jim Rhodes to me. He was the perfect foil for Downey Jr’s Stark. I hate re-casting comic book roles… a pet hate of mine.

Tis no great loss IMO. I was left a bit cold by Howard’s performance and character in the first film
Is Cheadle really less expensive? I mean, he’s a fairly big name as well. My only problem with the change (besides the fact that there is really no reason to do it) is that Cheadle doesn’t seem as physically imposing as Howard.
Fucki it! who cares? no one has a fucking clue War Machine is other than the squealing geeks anyway. this is after all an Iron Man film, not War Machine.Who cares?
one can argue back and forth, look at Maggie Gyllenhaal in dark knight etc, but I really thinks this is just a dumbass idea. I mean, why? why in the fuck? pointless.
Its an iron man movie based off the comic book series and war machine was a big factor in there but if you want to say it doesn’t matter who plays major role especially when replacing a character like Terrance Howard who had a lot of certain motions and little pieces of detail that made Rhodes. This movie will now suck balls! You watch their all going to go up their own asses and make the worst movie ever! If downy jr. was smart he would walk with some dignity because id rather they replace Howard with a dildo on roller skates than cheadle, he’s not a Rhodes. Case point.
Oh yea its also going to suck because Favreau got lucky as fuck with iron man and since he thinks he’s the shit he is now trying to do a 3D version! Seriously when was a 3D version of anything of really as good or remotely as good as iron man its always kids movies and movies that the story sucks so the 3D has to pull them in.
Yeah, i’m pretty sure the sequel will suck as well not though because that other dude(i dont even know his name!) has been kicked off it. I just dont think fav’s a very good director, he’s mediocre at best.
there will be tremendous pressure on him to come up with the goods on the next one and the whole 3d idea stinks like fucking kak!
I think Cheadle’s a better actor. From the rumors I’ve read, Howard wanted more money after how huge Iron Man was and wanted a clause for a spin-off.
To spin off idea:
I would give him the boot as well.

1. They promised Brian Cox that they would doctor him up for the new X-man movie then….DROPPED HIM.
2. Instead of giving Eric Bana a 2nd crack at the whip, they got in Norton,great Nortons good but, what about Bana….DROPPED HIM.
3. Now they’re gonna drop a VERY important character from the 1st Iron man, played by an actor who gave the character some depth and made almost EVERYONE want to see him return, what do MARVEL do…..DROP HIM!
