1. Spider-Man 3 - Peter Parker
An easy pick, thanks to the major problems that dogged Spider-Man 3 from almost day one. The production was sloppy, narrative choices were clearly misguided and the film went in some odd directions that are now the subject of derision and outright mockery even for the most forgiving of comic book movie fans. For every right move Maguire made as Peter Parker in the first two movies, Spider-Man 3 has an unfortunate answer, and sadly it is the images of the emo Parker and his dance sequence that are most brightly burned into the minds of fans of Raimi's series who felt betrayed by the final installment. Yes, Maguire was hamstrung by the material, but his far more hammy performance doesn't help matters, and for the first time since he pulled on the red and blue suit, we got the sense that Peter Parker was not a realistic character, even when his world was irresistibly hyper-real.
