Tom Cruise In Talks For Star Wars Episode 7?
There may be a great disturbance in the force as Cruise reportedly holds talks over Star Wars role.
Tom Cruise is reportedly in talks with director J.J. Abrams to take a role in the new Star Wars movie, Episode VII. "Tom has been in London for over a week and met up with J.J. (Abrams, and some other people from Star Wars at the weekend," a source close to the production told The Sun newspaper in the UK. Star Wars is currently being filmed nearby at Buckinghamshires Pinewood studios and it seems that the misfortune of Cruises fellow 80s icon Harrison Ford has provided an opening for Cruise as the delay in filming has reportedly allowed Abrams and his lieutenants time to consider a Cruise cameo. Ford required surgery after breaking his leg on the set of the movie while filming scenes as his character from the original movies, Han Solo on June 12. Losing Harrison is going to set things back a little scheduling wise and theres some time to play around with," the insider told the paper. It seems that Abrams close friendship with Cruise led them to meet-up for a bite to eat and that the director may be set to give the Mission: Impossible actor an unexpected chance to star in the most iconic movie franchise of all-time. On Saturday evening five of them met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel. J.J. produced Mission: Impossible 5 and loves working with Tom whenever he gets the chance," the source said. Cruises career has seen him star in a number of blockbuster sci-fi hits, including Minority Report and War of the Worlds. However his most recent foray into the genre Edge of Tomorrow, has done less well at the box-office despite being very well received by critics. However we think this one might just be tabloid tittle-tattle using Cruise and Abrams friendship as an excuse to justify what would be a potentially explosive story for Star Wars fans. Cruise is a fine actor but it would be difficult to see him turning up on Tatooine without being a bit of a distraction. His cameo in 2008s Tropic Thunder was loved by the critics but was a cartoonish one and the thought of Cruise's screen presence may not sit well with those who want the Star Wars franchise to get back to the darker elements of the first three films after George Lucas series of prequels were widely derided. However one option maybe to give Cruise an uncredited cameo role in a guise where we dont recognise him within the Star Wars universe theres certainly plenty of scope for Cruise to play one of the non-humanoid aliens underneath make-up or using CGI. So what do you think? Will Tom Cruise be in Star Wars? Is it a good idea? Or is this story as daft as bringing back Jar-Jar Binks?
