Yahoo have released the welcomely funny trailer for Red (Oct, Summit) based on Warren Ellis’ Wildstorm comic that shares the same ‘graphic action/comedy in a real world setting’ gene as The Losers and Wanted. It’s a post-Mark Millar comic book movie, if you will.
Red most definitely carries the tone that The A-Team should have been gunning for and out of all the similar themed movies this year (you can chuck in The Expendables too) – this looks like the funnest version of getting the band back together for one last job against their former friends/employers who have betrayed them.
Bruce Willis stars as Bruce Willis retired CIA agent Frank Moses whose former bosses have targeted him for assassination. In a bid to protect himself and the woman he loves (Mary Louise-Parker), Moses assembles his old team (Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich) for one last gig.
Watch below to see what Up would have been like with Bruce Willis (someone just HAS to do that parody mashup), Helen Mirren firing an automatic weapon, Morgan Freeman punching the bejseus out of Richard Dreyfuss and John Malkovich in an almost sequel to his Burn After Reading ex-CIA agent…
If those names weren’t enough… there’s also Brian Cox, Karl Urban, Julian McMahon and Ernest f***ing Borgnine in this thing!
Director Robert Schwentke (Flightplan, Time Traveler’s Wife) is actually a way better helmer than the material that has been thrown his way in the past, and finally he is getting to grips with something that is worthy of his talents and his direction looks assured, and his action composed and tight.
Red hits theaters in October and I’ll definitely be catching this one. I just wish they would change the title. Red, as far as I can tell, has little impact on the film and I just wonder if it’s the kind of title that will do it harm at the box office.

The Kiss was Off!
I enjoyed RED as it took the twists and turns through the movie, the saving of the life of the old agents, and learning some happy moments with the actors and actresses recalling old movie making together added to the film. And seeing : The DEVIL’s Rain; McHale’s Navy – Ernest Borgnine was a delightful treat too, to my well aged mind.
But…Bruce could have saved the entire movie if he had just not done that scene where he kissed the girl in the back seat of the car. S’cuze me! Because…It looked like he was about to eat her face, before he closed his mouth enough to make it look like a movie kiss.
He did not give it time, nor did they do any face scene, showing her attention for seeking his reward for saving her, or for showing her a good time. He may as well have been bashing one of his ex’s with a look, “which one do I miss today” of, “See! I can still trick a girl into kissing me!”
I would like to see my folk’s favorite stars, old lives, give us more of the movie quality they shared when my parents dragged us children off to the Drive-In for a night of wonder. But after several samples of movies made by the elderly actors, and actresses, made the way the children, who pay to see them, go to, I don’t think I am ever going to pay for a ticket to go to the Indoor Theater again.
After seeing all the junk shots, in RED, I see why I becoming a pack rat is some elderly peoples favorite past time. Anyone want to go to a Garage Sale?
