Venom: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

Eddie Brock's life is about to get even more complicated...

Venom is finally out in theatres and it is certainly, well, it's certainly a movie. Ironically, Sony's superhero flick suffers the same problem as its titular character, struggling to find its real identity in between two conflicting films: one a really great comedy that aims for Deadpool-esque humour, and another a generic mess of a superhero film that feels distinctively stuck in 2011 cliches.

It is a solid foundation to launch a new franchise off though, and the film does avoid the cardinal sin so many other superhero flicks (especially ones released by Sony) commit, by focusing purely on its main character and only peppering in a couple hints and teases towards future instalments or a wider fictional universe.

Still, there is a lot that goes down in Venom's climax, and it certainly leaves Sony in an interesting place to pick up the story, or even tie it into the wider MCU, in the inevitable sequel.

8. Riot And The Other Symbiotes Are Dead

Every trailer in the run up to release emphasised that there was going to be more than two symbiotes wreaking havoc in Venom, with the internet going into meltdown trying to figure out whether fan favourites like Toxin would find a host, and more importantly, would Carnage also one of the subjects captured by the Life Foundation?

While these other symbiotes do show up however, they're actually a little wasted. It's only Venom and Riot who you'd class as real characters, while the rest only appear to drive home the point that the lifeforms can't exist in Earth's atmosphere without a perfect host. And because they don't have anyone to bond with, they all end up dying while in their gooey forms before the film is over.

Consequently, with Riot also being exploded in the final action scene, Venom remains the last surviving symbiote that the Life Foundation brought back. Of course, there's still a comet with millions out there in space, and potentially even another unaccounted for on Earth...
