Venom Will Include Peter Parker, But Not Spider-Man

Don't expect any web-slinging...

Tom Holland Spider Man Homecoming

Just yesterday, the Internet was set ablaze after Collider's Jon Schnepp teased an exclusive about Tom Holland's Peter Parker appearing in the Sony Venom spin-off. Fans immediately got all excited about the prospect of seeing more Spidey, even though it all confused the MCU/Sony Spiderverse universes a little.

Now, Schnepp has clarified what he meant: Peter Parker will appear, but Spider-Man won't.

He appeared on the new Collider Heroes to confirm that Tom Holland filmed at least two days on the Venom set, and calls his role no more than a cameo. And that he won't suit up as Spider-Man at all. Here's what he says:

"Tom Holland was on set filming scenes on Venom for at least two days as Peter Parker. Okay, so I’m not saying Spider-Man is in the film. When I say Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is in the film, I’m saying Peter Parker is in the film."

We'll have to wait for that confirmation - if it ever comes, given how valuable the spoiler probably is to Sony - but it sounds entirely plausible given the slightly cagey description of the Sony movies as an "adjunct" to the MCU. And the more we see of Holland as Parker the better, even if he's not spinning webs.

Since the Venom movie is set in San Francisco, it's safe to assume that Peter heads cross country on a school trip from New York - perhaps to visit the institute that develops the symbiote as a weapon. There's an alternate theory out there that Parker could bring the symbiote to Earth after Infinity War, but that seems slightly less likely for now. It just makes Peter's relationship with the symbiote too throw-away.

For now, we'll just have to wait...
